Product Description
Blue Spruce Toolworks new Optima Chisels feature a lapped and polished back with a flatness measured in light bands (the same system used to measure silicon wafers). When you unbox your new Optima Chisels, they’re razor sharp and 100% ready to go to work.
Each Optima Chisel is machined from A2 tool steel, then double-tempered and cryogenically treated. The tempering and cryo treatments result in an incredibly fine grain structure and a hardness of Rockwell C-60 to C-62.
In other mortise chisels, the wooden handleacts as a shock absorber between your mallet and the blade. WithOptima Mortise Chisels the striking cap has a direct connection to the cutting edge through a central steel core. All the energy of your strike is delivered to the cut. The blades are taller than they are wide (except the 1/2″, which is square) andthe sides of theblades have been carefully ground parallel to each other. This profile guides your cut in the right direction…straight.
Each figured Maple handle goes through a proprietary infusion process that dramatically increases its durability. The result is the toughness of a composite handle with the beauty of natural wood.
The blades extend 4-1/2″ beyond the ferrule and the handles are 4-3/4″ long. The cutting edge has aprimary bevel at30° and a micro bevel isthen honed at 35°.
The set includes the three most commonly used chisel sizes: 1/4″, 3/8″, and 1/2″.
